Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios launches website of Salalah St Stephen's Orthodox Church

Salalah: Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios has launched the website for St Stephen's Orthodox Church, Salalah, on April 18. The launch ceremony was held during the Metropolitan's pastoral visit to the church last week. Online: http://www.ststephensorthodoxchurchsalalah.com Salalah Church Vicar Rev. Fr. Isaac Thomas, executive members, members of the managing committee, and the faithful graced the occasion. The main page shows the photograph of St Stephen's stating it as the first and only parish in the Middle East under whose name the first Martyr of the church came into existence in Salalah, the southern region of the Sultanate of Oman. St Stephen's Orthodox Church came into existence in 1975 and presently is a full-fledged parish with all spiritual organisations.

Muscat: Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios and Dr Mar Aprem, Metropolitan of the Chaldean Syrian Church of The East in India, held informal talks in Muscat on April 20, Saturday. Churches in the Sultanate of Oman come under Ahmedabad Diocese. Dr Mar Yulios is presently in Muscat on a 10-day short pastoral visit to the Sultanate, while Dr Mar Aprem is the head of the Church of the East in India with his headquarters in Thrissur. Dr Mar Yulios also hails from Kunnamkulam in Thrissur.

Muscat Maha Edavaka 2013-14 OCYM team takes charge

Muscat: Under the Presidentship of Vicar Rev Fr Joji George Koickalethu and Associate Vicar Rev Fr Binu John Thomas, the new Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (OCYM) members of Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka for 2013-2014 have taken charge. Nidhin Babu Chirathilattu will be the new Secretary. He will be assisted by John P Luke, the Joint Secretary, and Varghese P Alex as Treasurer. Tony Veetus will be the Auditor while Joji John, the Ex-Officio. They will be assisted by a 5 member committee members.

Abudhabi: 29th OSSAE-UAE-Zonal teachers annual conference will be held on 19th April 2013 at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, Abu Dhabi. The conference shall be inaugurated by Fr. V.C. Jose, OSSAE-UAE-Zonal Director followed by the devotional talk of Rev. Fr. Mathew Varghese, Rev. Fr. Saji Abraham, Rev. Fr. Biju Daniel and the secretary of Abu Dhabi Cathedral Mr. P.S. Baby. Fr. Laiju Markose and Mr. Johnson Thomas shall take classes on the topic 'Nirmala Bhakthi'. Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka elects lady committee member for first time in its history

Muscat: For the first time in the 40-year history of Muscat Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka, a lady member in Mrs Mariamma Philip (Church ID # M 159) has been elected to the office bearer’s post from the Ruwi area. HG Pullikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan, has in a Kalpana No 33/13 approved the list of office bearers and managing committee members for 2013-14. The members were elected at its General Body meeting held on March 1, 2013 under the Presidentship of Vicar Rev Fr Joji George Koickalethu and Associate Vicar Rev Fr Binu John Thomas. The members will have their tenure from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.

Dubai: OCYM Dubai unit celebrated Easter by joining members of the Sonapur area prayer group for an Easter celebration on 31.03.2013. H.G. Dr. Mar Diascoros washes feet of Muscat Maha Edavaka Sunday School students

Muscat: His Grace Dr.Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan, Chennai Diocese, enacted the ritual of feet washing (Kalukazhukal Susrusha) at the St Thomas Church, on March 28, 2013, Maundy Thursday of Holy Week. The Metropolitan also washed and kissed the feet of the Sunday School children who played the role of twelve apostles during the ceremony in observance of Holy Thursday. Traditionally, this religious rite is reserved for the priests and senior citizens but the Muscat Maha Edavaka has a tradition where the senior Sunday School students are given the honour.

Abudhabi: Nadha Krupayal, the first indigenous Devotional Album Produced by the OCYM unit of St George Orthodox Cathedral Abu Dhabi was released in front of huge number of parishioners after the Hosanna Service on 23rd March 2013. The OCYM office bearers presented the much awaited Album Nadha Krupayal to Rev Fr. V.C Jose, Vicar, St. George Orthodox Cathedral who in turn officially revealed it in the presence Fr. Cherian K Jacob & Fr. Thomas Muttuvelil by handing over to the SGOC Secretary Mr. P.S. Baby. The sale of the Album was inaugurated by handing over the first copy to SGOC Trustee Mr. P.A. Abraham

Abudhabi: St George Orthodox Cathedral, Abu Dhabi has celebrated the Catholicate Day (Sabha Dinam) of 2013 on 15th March. The Diocesian metropolitan H.G Yakub Mar Elias has hoisted the flag after the special prayer during the Holy Qurbana. The Vicar Rev. Fr. V.C Jose administered the catholicate day pledge reaffirming our loyalty and dedication to the Church, to the Throne of St. Thomas, to the Catholicate of the East and to the Catholicose and all the members of Holy Episcopal Synod. Mr. P.S Baby, the cathedral Secretary has read out the bhakthiprameyam.

SANAA, Republic of Yemen -- Rev Fr Mathew Mathew, President/Vicar St Mary’s Orthodox Church, Yemen hosted Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios for 5 days from February 5-9, 2013. Recalls Fr Mathew of his unique spiritual experience: “For me, personally, it was a Mount Tabor-like experience. (Mount Tabor is the site of the Transfiguration of Christ.) His Grace Dr Mar Yulios stayed with me in the church’s parsonage and thus I could serve Him (Metropolitan) in all respects....” The septuagenarian Vicar had completed Silver Jubilee of ordination as a priest in July last year.
